La tecnofobia es un sentimiento de aversión por la tecnología, la resistencia a interactuar en forma virtual a raíz de la pandemia COVID
CIUDAD DE MÉXICO.- Aunque hay muchos nativos digitales, que navegan sin problemas en internet e incrementaron su tiempo en el ciberespacio a raíz de la pandemia de COVID, hay personas con capacidad productiva que presentan repulsión a la tecnología y a las innovaciones digitales, en un fenómeno conocido como tecnofobia, que agudiza problemas de ansiedad y depresión.
Miguel Alberto Zapata, investigador de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) en ciencia y tecnología, señaló que “la tecnofobia es un sentimiento de aversión por la tecnología”. Además, “la tecnofobia no es propia de una generación u otra, sino que afecta por igual a todos los sectores de la sociedad”.
El especialista añadió que “muchas veces cuando nos presentan una nueva tecnología, no hacemos siquiera el intento por entenderla; pasamos por un periodo de resistencia a las nuevas tecnologías, en donde preferimos aquellas que ya conocemos”.
La pandemia ha orillado a la población mundial a utilizar tecnologías digitales en casi todos los aspectos de su vida. Las conferencias virtuales, plataformas educativas, de trabajo y aplicaciones para realizar transacciones financieras, son sólo algunos ejemplos.
Aunque la tecnología es necesaria, ésta además genera una sensación de aislamiento. De acuerdo con el profesor de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, el problema con la tecnología, que se deriva del confinamiento, es que causa un sentimiento de ruptura en nuestros espacios, pues fusiona el lugar de trabajo, de ocio, de aprendizaje y de descanso en uno sólo y nos deja a merced de un espacio que es imposible ordenar adecuadamente.
Muchos de los recursos digitales estaban antes de la pandemia, pero como explica el investigador, “no existía una obligación para utilizarlos o adaptarlos dentro de un mismo espacio”.
El confinamiento agudizó aún más estos sentimientos de aversión hacia la tecnología, pues limita las formas en que las personas se relacionan entre sí a situaciones poco habituales y que sustituyen la interacción directa.
En una conferencia por internet, los sujetos se desconectan e impiden el seguimiento de la interacción; se elimina la retroalimentación, a diferencia de los eventos presenciales, donde se da el efecto cara a cara, comentó el académico.
Un estudio realizado en la Universidad de Córdoba, Argentina, expuso que la incomodidad en el uso de tecnologías digitales aumenta los niveles de estrés y ansiedad entre 20 y 40% de la población. Esta situación les impide realizar adecuadamente sus actividades cotidianas, además de incrementar la posibilidad de desarrollar frustración, irritación, desorientación e incluso trastornos de angustia y agorafobia, que es el miedo a los espacios exteriores.
Los malestares provocados por la tecnofobia prevalecen en la vida de cerca del 10% de la población mundial, causando ansiedad y fobia social, lo que hace necesario el acudir a tratamiento clínico especializado para tratar los síntomas.
