ANKARA, TURQUÍA, 17 de octubre (AlmomentoMX).- El presidente de Turquía, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, arrojó a la basura la carta que recibió de su homólogo estadounidense, Donald Trump, en la que le pedía un acuerdo sobre la ofensiva turca en el noreste de Siria o, de lo contrario, amenazaba con destruir la economía del país euroasiático.
La carta del 9 de octubre fue rechazada por el presidente Erdogan y arrojada a la basura”, asegura hoy una fuente diplomática turca al diario Hürriyet.
La misma fuente agrega que la respuesta más directa a la misiva fue que Turquía lanzó el mismo día 9 la ofensiva militar en el noreste de Siria que busca expulsar a milicias kurdosirias a las que califica de “terroristas”.
En la carta, Trump advertía a su homólogo turco en un tono crudo y coloquial de las consecuencias que acarrearía el comienzo de las operaciones militares.
Usted no quiere ser responsable de la matanza de miles de personas, y yo no quiero ser responsable de la destrucción de la economía turca -y lo haré-“, afirmaba Trump en la carta.
El contenido de la carta, revelado por una periodista de la cadena de televisión Fox News en Twitter, fue ampliamente criticado por el empleo de un vocabulario poco frecuente en las comunicaciones entre dos presidentes.
La historia lo verá de forma favorable si hace esto bien y de forma humana. Lo verá por siempre como el demonio si no pasan cosas buenas”, definía Trump a Erdogan.
Trump anunció la semana pasada la retirada de las tropas estadounidenses de Siria, una decisión que permitió la puesta en marcha de la intervención militar turca y que recibió críticas desde el propio Partido Republicano del presidente.
Esta semana Washington ya sancionó a tres ministros del Ejecutivo de Ankara, además de anunciar una subida de los aranceles contra el acero turco de hasta el 50 % como represalia por la ofensiva de Turquía en Siria.
Erdogan recibe Pence y Pompeo para negociar un posible alto el fuego en Siria
El vicepresidente estadounidense, Mike Pence, y el secretario de Estado, Mike Pompeo, se reunieron este jueves en Ankara con el presidente turco, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, para negociar un posible alto el fuego en la ofensiva turca contra milicias kurdas en el noreste de Siria.
Erdogan rechazó ayer en un primer momento reunirse con Pence y Pompeo, indicando que solo hablaría con su homólogo, Donald Trump, pero poco después rectificó y los emplazó a una reunión el jueves.
“Él (Trump) insistía en mediar, insistía en el alto el fuego… Al final le dije: envía una delegación, negociamos y llegamos a un acuerdo primero. Luego hablaremos del alto el fuego”, dijo Erdogan a la emisora turca NTV.
El mandatario dijo ayer que solo pondría fin a la ofensiva si las milicias kurdas se desarman y se retiran de la franja de 30 kilómetros de ancho y 480 de largo que Ankara aspira a tener bajo control en el noreste de Siria.
Ayer llegó parte de la delegación estadounidense, con el asesor de Seguridad Nacional, Robert O’Brien, y el enviado especial para Siria, James Jeffrey, que se reunieron con el ministro de Exteriores turco, Mevlüt Çavusoglu.
