CIUDAD DE MÉXICO, 4 de julio, (AlMomentoMX).— De acuerdo a un estudio reciente la obesidad ha superado al tabaquismo como la principal causa de cuatro tipos de cáncer.
Investigadores de la fundación Cancer Research UK (CRUK), de Reino Unido, llegaron a la conclusión de que los cánceres del intestino, riñón, ovario e hígado son probablemente más el producto del sobrepeso que del tabaquismo.
Para la organización, la obesidad es un tema preocupante ya que millones de personas se encuentran en riesgo debido al exceso de peso, pues en la actualidad, los números de obesos sobrepasan a los de fumadores en razón de dos a uno.
CRUK inició una campaña con una valla publicitaria que advierte del peligro de la obesidad. Sin embargo, la fundación británica no es la única en hacer esfuerzos por erradicar este mal, pues ya en otras ocasiones, la Organización Mundial de la Salud y el National Cancer Institute en Estados Unidos, entre otros, han hecho énfasis en la peligrosa relación entre la obesidad y estos tipos de cáncer tremendamente agresivos.
Obesidad en México
México es el segundo país con mayor tasa de obesidad entre adultos en el mundo, de acuerdo con datos de la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económicos (OCDE). En nuestro país el 72.5% de la población tiene sobrepeso u obesidad, de acuerdo con la Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición (INSP).
La obesidad en México tienen ya tintes de epidemia y para darnos una idea de la magnitud del problema, según cifras de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO, por sus siglas en inglés), las personas mayores de 18 años con obesidad en México pasaron de 20.5 millones en 2012 a 24.3 millones en 2016. Mientras que en obesidad infantil, según información de UNICEF, hay 4.1 millones de niños que padecen esta enfermedad.
