CIUDAD DE MÉXICO, 10 de abril 2018.- El gobierno federal anunció que México será sede de la 121 Sesión de Consejo de la Organización Internacional del Café (OIC) donde productores, agroindustriales y líderes del sector cafetalero mundial se reunirán para fortalecer el cultivo, promover su expansión sostenible y tener un mercado cada vez más justo.
Del 9 al 13 de abril, en la Ciudad de México en coordinación con la Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentación (SAGARPA) y se abordarán temas como las enfermedades del café, haciendo hincapié en la roya, factor que en los últimos años ha sido causante de la baja producción; así como de los retos de producción del aromático y los beneficios que su consumo trae a la salud.
La OIC es la principal organización intergubernamental que se ocupa de asuntos cafeteros, reuniendo a gobiernos de países exportadores e importadores para abordar, mediante la cooperación internacional, los desafíos que enfrenta el sector a nivel mundial.
Cabe destacar que los integrantes de la OIC representan el 98 por ciento de la producción global de café y más del 83 por ciento del consumo.
La misión de la OIC es fortalecer el sector cafetero mundial y promover su expansión sostenible con base en el mercado, esto para beneficio de todos los participantes en el sector.
Anualmente a nivel mundial se realizan dos períodos de sesiones del Consejo Internacional del Café, en los cuales se debaten los temas claves del sector, se aprueban documentos estratégicos y se examinan las recomendaciones de los órganos consultivos y de los comités.
Asistirán al evento representantes de Alemania, Austria, Brasil, Camerún, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, España, Estados Unidos, Etiopia, Filipinas, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Japón, Kenia, México, Nepal, Nicaragua, Países Bajos, Papúa Nueva Guinea, Ruanda, Suecia, Suiza, Togo y Ugand
