Ciudad de México, 7 marzo 2018.- México será la sede de la Cumbre Mundial del Océano (World Ocean Summit 2018), cuyo objetivo es promover acciones para el desarrollo de una pesca sustentable, disminuir la contaminación en los océanos y hacer frente al cambio climático, factores que actualmente afectan los mares de todo el mundo.
El foro es organizado por “The Economist” en coordinación con el Gobierno de la República a través de la Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentación (SAGARPA) y la Comisión Nacional de Acuacultura y Pesca (CONAPESCA) y se llevará a cabo del 7 al 9 de marzo en el estado de Quintana Roo.
En esta Cumbre internacional se espera la participación del Presidente de la República, Enrique Peña Nieto, del titular de la SAGARPA, José Calzada Rovirosa y secretarios del Gobierno Federal, así como jefes de Estado, ministros, inversionistas y empresarios de diversos países.
Este foro reúne a grandes inversionistas, representantes gubernamentales, así como a líderes en política medio ambiental, social y corporativa, capaces de impulsar inversiones sostenibles con potencial de crecimiento, con el objetivo de reforzar la participación del capital privado en favor del futuro productivo de los mares.
El encuentro dará seguimiento a la reunión World Ocean Summit 2017, celebrada en el Isla de Bali, para analizar acciones concretas sobre marcos de inversión con la comunidad oceánica, lo que permitirá encontrar soluciones en áreas de contaminación e impulsar pesquerías sostenibles, a fin de generar iniciativas azules para la conservación de los océanos.
Se pretende también formar alianzas estratégicas con los sectores público y privado para promover mejores prácticas sostenibles dentro de su organización, país o industria, a fin de liderar un cambio para el aprovechamiento sustentable de los mares.
En esta Cumbre Mundial del Océano (World Ocean Summit 2018), se espera la participación de representantes de diversos países como Islandia, Costa Rica, Chile, Noruega, Ecuador, Indonesia y Uruguay, entre otros.
Asimismo, se prevé la asistencia de representantes de importantes organizaciones como Cermaq, CE Delft, Coral Vita, Universidad de Adelphi, Banco Europeo de Inversiones, Citigroup y del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID).
También se contará con la presencia de representantes de JPMorgan Chase & Co, Liquid Robotics, una filial de la compañía Boeing, Marine Harvest, Mission Blue, NovozymeS, Oceana, One More Generation, Pontos Aqua Holdings, grupo de sostenibilidad e impacto, Rockefeller & Co, Swiss Re, Thai Union, así como el enviado especial para el océano, de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) y la directora general de la UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay.
