ISRAEL, 06 de enero, (AlMomentoMX).- Los ministros de Exteriores de seis países árabes y el secretario general de la Liga Árabe, Ahmed Abulgueit, anunciaron hoy el lanzamiento de una iniciativa para tratar de que la comunidad internacional reconozca el estado palestino y a Jerusalén Este como su capital.
Los países árabes buscarán un amplio reconocimiento de Jerusalén como capital palestina, como parte de la solución de dos estados, anunció el ministro jordano de Asuntos Exteriores, Ayman Safadi, en una rueda de prensa al lado de Abulgueit.
“Hemos acordado lanzar un amplio movimiento con la comunidad mundial con el objetivo de obtener una amplia actitud política internacional en apoyo de un estado palestino independiente con Jerusalén Oriental como su capital”, dijo Safadi.
En la reunión participaron los ministros de Exteriores de Jordania, Arabia Saudí, Emiratos Árabes Unidos, Egipto, Marruecos y Palestina, que forman el grupo de la Liga Árabe creado para evaluar la situación de Jerusalén tras su reconocimiento como capital de Israel por parte de EU.
Safadi también dijo que el grupo también centrará sus esfuerzos en “garantizar que ningún otro estado tome la decisión de reconocer a Jerusalén como capital israelí o trasladar su embajada a Jerusalén”.
Los países árabes tratarán de presionar a Israel para que respete las resoluciones internacionales a pesar del reconocimiento de EU, una decisión que, según los árabes, no acarrea consecuencias legales.
Safadi y Abulgueit dijeron que la Liga Árabe celebrará a finales de este mes una reunión completa de ministros de Exteriores “para evaluar el resultado” de los contactos del grupo con la comunidad mundial, principalmente con Rusia, China y la Unión Europea (UE).
Abulgueit describió la reunión de Ammán como “extremadamente fructífera” y resaltó que los países árabes han logrado “éxitos” diplomáticos en la cuestión de Jerusalén, como el apoyo de 14 miembros en el Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU, a pesar del veto de EU, y de 128 estados en la Asamblea General de la ONU.
“Nuestro esfuerzo es un proceso continuo, gradual y creciente”, dijo el secretario general de la Liga Árabe.
En la reunión de hoy, según reconoció Abulgueit, se discutió una propuesta para cancelar los tratados de paz firmados con Israel, por parte de Egipto y Jordania, pero aseguró que los ministros “decidieron unánimemente adherirse al proceso de paz como una opción estratégica de acuerdo con la iniciativa de paz árabe”.
Esa iniciativa, impulsada por Arabia Saudí, ofrecía a Israel reconocimiento a cambio de su salida de todos los territorios árabes ocupados durante la Guerra de los Seis Días de 1967, incluida Jerusalén Oriental.
